Day 0 :

Arrival in Arusha / Moshi

Upon arrival in Tanzania, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi where you will meet your mountain team for a full trek briefing and equipment check. The evening is reserved for preparation, relaxation, and final adjustments before beginning your Kilimanjaro adventure.

Your journey begins at Machame Gate where registration is completed before entering the lush rainforest slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Trek through beautiful forest trails surrounded by giant trees, tropical vegetation, and occasional wildlife sightings while gradually ascending toward Machame Camp.

The rainforest atmosphere, mountain mist, and dramatic scenery create an unforgettable first impression of Africa’s highest mountain.

Day 2 :

Machame Camp to Shira Camp (3,850m)

Leave the rainforest behind as the landscape changes into open moorlands filled with giant heathers and volcanic scenery. As the altitude increases, breathtaking mountain views begin to open across the Shira Plateau while the summit of Kilimanjaro becomes increasingly visible in the distance.

Today’s trek offers one of the most scenic transitions on the entire mountain.

Shira Camp to Lava Tower (4,630m) to Barranco Camp (3,900m)

Today is one of the most important acclimatization days of the trek. Ascend gradually toward the dramatic Lava Tower while experiencing the famous “climb high, sleep low” strategy designed to help your body adapt safely to the altitude.

After reaching Lava Tower, descend toward Barranco Camp surrounded by giant senecio plants and spectacular mountain scenery beneath the imposing Barranco Wall.

Day 4 :

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (3,995m)

Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, one of Kilimanjaro’s most exciting trekking sections. Although steep in appearance, the climb is safe and rewarding while offering breathtaking panoramic views across valleys and glaciers.

Continue through alpine landscapes toward Karanga Camp while enjoying increasingly dramatic high-altitude scenery.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,673m)

Today’s trek is shorter but extremely important as you continue toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before summit night. The landscape becomes more rugged and alpine as climbers prepare mentally and physically for the ascent to Uhuru Peak.

After an early dinner, rest and prepare for the overnight summit attempt beneath the stars of Kilimanjaro.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Shortly after midnight, begin the challenging summit ascent under the darkness of the African sky. Slowly climb across volcanic scree slopes while approaching Stella Point before continuing toward Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa.

Reach the summit at sunrise and witness one of the world’s most extraordinary mountain views as glaciers, clouds, and endless African landscapes stretch across the horizon.

After celebrating this unforgettable achievement, descend carefully toward Mweka Camp for overnight rest.

How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
